Besides the issue of being plagued with hackers and cheaters, the server is not doing too well. Recently, several pro-gamers raised their complaints. They also mentioned the fact that they rolled out an initial fix to take care of this. However, it might be a while before we get a permanent solution for this. The matter remains unprecedented as we do not know what is causing this issue. Neither do we have a clue what Activision or Infinity Ward are going to do to fix it.
However, Infinity Ward is taking steps to address the issue, with a fix confirmed to be coming, though there’s no ETA for it just yet. Over on Twitter, Joe Cecot, Infinity Ward’s co-design director of multiplayer, acknowledged the issue in a reply to a fan. According to Cecot, the problem has now been identified, and Infinity Ward is “working on a fix. Long matchmaking times, in particular, have been a contentious issue for fans. It’s difficult to say when Infinity Ward will deploy the fix, and until the issue is solved fans will have to deal with the matchmaking problems.
This does seem like it will be a priority for Infinity Ward, though, so a fix should be in the pipeline soon. Issues will continue to rise here and there, but it is good that Infinity Ward is squashing bugs now. Still, many are optimistic that the issues will quickly be solved, allowing the game to return to its normal state.
Hopefully, Infinity Ward’s fix for the matchmaking problem is released soon. Cameron has been holding a controller for about as long as he can remember. Bad pun definitely intended. According to Obsidian , connectivity issues could be caused by anti-virus software. This being the case, the developers recommend repeatedly trying to host new games in the hopes that eventually, things will click. It seems that for now, the best workaround is to keep trying in the hopes that the multiplayer will work. No ETA on a resolution at this time but trying to host the lobby again has been known to help.
If that is not able to help though, single player will be available while this is sorted out. Hopefully Obsidian will get Grounded running a little more smoothly soon. In the meantime, players will simply have to keep trying the multiplayer matchmaking lobby until something clicks. This article has been updated to reference anti-virus connectivity issues experienced by some players — special thanks to HITC reader Gary J for reaching out to share his experience with the game.

Some of these early launch issues have now been resolved, but it certainly felt like Google rushed to meet its launch date all while the world was waiting for Stadia to flop. This has led to some obvious problems. A big part of Destiny 2 is the mix of player-versus-environment PvE and player-versus-player PvP , with modes like Gambit that blend the two together, or the planets you visit in the game where other players roam freely next to you eliminating the same enemies.
A lot of the game involves shared activities and missions, where you can form a premade fireteam or be automatically matched with random players. Basic things like visiting planets and participating in public events can feel lonely, and you often load into strikes with nobody by your side. As a whole skill-based matchmaking SBMM is a good thing. By design, it’s supposed to give you fun-but-challenging multiplayer experiences — not one or the other. Back in the old days, before matchmaking was a thing and when PC players were definitely, absolutely, assuredly going to boycott Modern Warfare 2 over it , you’d use a server browser to find a game, you’d jump in and you’d deal with the hand you were dealt.
And if you joined a server where one side was all players rocking the same clan tag, you were usually in for a rough time. These cats were pubstomping — or getting sweaty, as the kids say these days. They were using hardcore strats, taking things super serious and getting ready to wipe the floor with you. Generally they were warming up before scrims or a ladder match, but their reasons didn’t matter to you.
You were the nail, and they were the hammer, so you were about to get hit in the head. A lot. The reverse also happened sometimes. Either you’d form a crew of sweat-lords to stomp it up, or the universe might just serve you a big plate of bambinos, ready for you to devour.
